Borussia Dortmund welcomes FC Bayern in the Bundesliga. BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke is confident and also talks about Uli Hoeneß.

Dortmund – On Saturday (6.30 p.m.) there will be the top game in the Bundesliga between Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern. “This is the game of the two clubs that have by far the most appeal. If you don’t recognize this, you should go to an ophthalmologist,” says Hans-Joachim Watzke in an interview with the pay- channel Sky.

Watzke: “We already know our importance”

While FC Bayern is top of the table before matchday 12, BVB goes into the duel with Munich in fifth place. Even champions Bayer 04 Leverkusen, currently fourth in the table, do not see eye to eye with Watzke.

“I have huge respect for what Leverkusen did last year. They have a great team and are a great club. But we are Borussia Dortmund, that is Bayern Munich and we already know our importance,” said Watzke before the ‘Klassiker’.

Will Watzke also meet Bavaria’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß in the official gallery on Saturday? If so, the two will be on first name terms. Watzke remembers: “It was some international match, we were sitting in the Uli Hoeneß lounge and then he offered me the first name.” Jan-Christian Dreesen, the current chairman of the record champions, shouted: “A historic moment.” said Watzke.

The BVB boss says they then “toasted about it”. “I don’t know how many years it’s been, but a few years anyway.”

Watzke reacts to Ricken’s challenge

Watzke goes into the clash with FC Bayern confidently. Dortmund’s sports director Lars Ricken recently said: “We in the sports management are sure: This will be a great game. And we want to win it. We will win it! Together we can do it!” Watzke says: “I feel the same way.”

BVB recently had some difficulties in the Bundesliga on foreign territory. However, they can proudly point to their impeccable home record: they have won all six home games so far. Nevertheless, Dortmund faces a serious challenge, with FC Bayern emerging as the strongest away team in the league so far.
