Southampton’s Cameron Archer had a goal ruled out after Adam Armstrong was deemed to have interfered with play while in an offside position.
This decision provoked a heated argument between the two managers, who were both booked during the game.
And things boiled over at full time as the two managers exchanged some choice words after a feisty 110 minutes in the Premier League.
They were eventually separated by members of the backroom staff but a firm sense of feeling lingered in the air at the Amex.
Speaking after the game, Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler said: “For me it’s just important to have respect.
“It’s important to respect each other and how you talk to each other.
“That’s how I was educated.”
In response to Hurzeler’s comments, Martin said: “The manager decided to say something about respect.

“I’ve never known a manager try to get as many players booked as that.
“Respect is reciprocal.
“It’s mutual.”
Russell Martin also expressed his disagreement with the decision to rule out Archer’s goal.
He said: “As for the decision late on, I respect how difficult the decision is for the referee and the assistant referee.
“It is really difficult, but I find it hard to accept.
“The on-pitch decision carries weight, and it will probably be recorded as a correct decision.
“But in my opinion, Adam does not affect the goalkeeper, so it’s a bad decision.
“I would rather the guy make a mistake on the pitch and we go ‘no problem’.”
