Grenoble confirmed its current good form by dominating Colomiers at its Stade des Alpes (65-19) during the 12th day of Pro D2. The Isérois, who relied on Sam Davies and Barnabé Couilloud as well as a Columérine defense in difficulty, regained their throne which they had temporarily ceded to Brive at the top of Pro D2.
Grenoble confirmed its good form in this second block of the season by winning in its fortress of Stade des Alpes against Colomiers at the end of the 12th day of Pro D2 (65-19).
Sam Davies and Barnabé Couilloud masters of the room
The leader of the regular phase took around ten minutes before getting started. It must be said that Colomiers, who has won only one of his last six matches, started with a bang and was rewarded by Pablo Dimcheff, who came to flatten on a carried ball. Led, the Isérois will rely on their hinge to wake up. First by Sam Davies. The Welsh fly-half first scored a penalty before completing a magnificent feint which allowed Barnabé Couilloud to score the hosts' first try. Two minutes later, after twenty minutes of play, the Welshman sent a magnificent kick and in the continuity of the action, Antonin Berruyer flattened like a good captain after a succession of pick & go. Colomiers is getting impatient and showing himself to be undisciplined in the fight as Ugo Seguela pointed out at the break: “We're off to a good start. Maybe we can put in a little more fight, but the negative point is especially the discipline. We score points and take a penalty or a try behind. If we resolve this discipline, we can perhaps stay at home and pick up the score. This lack of rigor resulted in the visitors being reduced to 14 after Barnabé Couilloud flattened for the second time and a new foul from Paolo Parpagiola, half an hour into the game. The Grenoblois took the break and naturally relaxed . On the kick-off, Pablo Dimcheff scored a second try, validated by the video, to which Sam Davies responded with a penalty. At the break, Grenoble is in the lead: 27-12.
Grenoble unplayable for Colomiers
Decisive in the first half, Sam Davies once again showed his class in the second act. After a new breakthrough, the opener finds the support of Barnabé Couilloud who only has to throw Gerswin Mouton on the edge of the touchline. With victory in hand, Grenoble was looking for an offensive bonus, especially since Jean Thomas, newly promoted to captain, left his friends at fourteen after a new accumulation of mistakes from his team. This chronic indiscipline made Julien Sarraute disappointed on his sidelines: “Today, we are approximate, we don't have the ball, against a team like Grenoble that's unforgiving.” Grenoble continues to take advantage of Colomiers' defensive errors to grab the offensive bonus thanks to Wilfried Hulleu. Colomiers is no longer there. Following new defensive errors, Romain Fusier and Gerswin Mouton, once again, scored Isère's sixth and seventh tries. Arthur Diaz will save the honor in the last ten minutes, even if the score was made and Wilfried Hulleu will answer him at the very end of the match to conclude the Isère festival.
Next week, Colomiers will open the ball on the 13th day with the reception of another candidate for promotion to the Top 14: Provence Rugby while Grenoble will travel to the Stade Monois pitch to continue its very good series.
