Finally! After four games without a win, the first three-pointer has been scored for Union in the Europa League. The people of Brussels were furious, especially in the first half, and defeated the Dutch Twente. The fact that quite a few chances were wrung away and they ‘only’ won 0-1, could not spoil the fun. Midfielder Noah Sadiki appeared with a broad smile in front of the cameras after the match.
“Finally we can win in Europe. We could have scored more, but we won and that’s what counts. Everyone is extremely happy with this victory,” said Sadiki, who saw his flash interview briefly ‘disturbed’ by his teammates who were loudly celebrating. “As you can see, everyone is very happy. It’s nice to win here.”
Especially in the first half, Union raged like a tornado. The people of Brussels played together chance after chance and the intensity was also high. Sadiki saw that his team achieved a performance that can be further built upon. “We must continue this way. This is the path we must take. Show that we are there and are not afraid to play football. The second half was a bit less (playing football), but we persevered and did not concede any chances.”
Union’s strength today lay in midfield, where Sadiki together with Charles Vanhoutte form a well-oiled tandem. “It’s nice to have a motorcycle behind me,” Sadiki laughed. “I know that if I lose the ball, he is there to solve it. I’m very happy to be able to play with him. Hopefully we can take the next step in our career soon. We will see what the future brings,” the midfielder did not hide his ambitions.
