In volume 1 of his autobiography, released on November 19 and entitled Cher : The Memoir, Part 1the interpreter of Believe was told like never before. In a relationship with Sonny Bono whom she met in 1962 when she was only 16 and he was 27, their story was checkered. They married in 1964 and then formed the duo Sonny & Cher, which enjoyed dazzling success with their first hit, “I Got You Babe” in 1965. Ten years later, the couple eventually divorced and tore custody of their only son: Chaz. In her autobiography, Cher described contemplating suicide several times during her years of marriage to Sonny. Our colleagues at People magazine reported: “Despite their productive professional partnership, Cher writes that Bono controlled her – and she began to feel 'trapped' in what she calls a 'loveless marriage'”.
When Cher thought about ending
The singer then recounted that in 1972, then aged 26, and traveling to Las Vegas for work, she thought of the worst. “I was dizzy with loneliness. I saw how easy it would be to go over the edge [du balcon de sa chambre d’hôtel] and just disappear. For a few crazy minutes, I couldn't imagine any other option. I did it five or six times.”she admitted. She ultimately did not put her idea into practice and finally realized that she could simply break up with her husband. “I don't have to jump. I can just leave him”she writes in her book.
The diva cheated on after her third miscarriage
Back in 1967, Sonny Bono concentrates on writing the film Chastityin which Cher plays the main role. She is 21 years old and has just suffered her third miscarriage. A difficult period during which she did not really receive support from her husband… Indeed, while she had to get back on her feet, she hired a secretary for her husband to help him take notes for writing his film. So far so good, except that things have taken another turn as Cher said about this “woman who happened to be young and blonde. That old refrain”.
She recalled in her book going down one evening to drink water when she saw the two silhouettes of her husband and his secretary, all accompanied by “rustling and whispering”. She therefore surprises her husband in the act of adultery and says: “At that point I knew something was wrong, but I continued walking towards our bedroom, when I saw the silhouettes of Sonny helping his new assistant out the bedroom door. entry. It was such a cliché. It broke my heart, but his effort must be applauded.. The worst? Sonny Bono didn't apologize and even made Cher feel guilty! ““I wouldn't have had to look outside of our marriage to see if I had been sexually satisfied.” would he then have justified himself. Faced with these comments, the singer found herself finally having to make her mea culpa… “I found myself apologizing.”she admitted. The world upside down.
