Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have shared Champions League records for years. Not anymore when it comes to assists.
This week, Europe vibrates to the rhythm of the Champions League. Yesterday Barça made short work of Stade Brestois with a record from Robert Lewandowski. This Wednesday, another French team offered a record to its opponent. At the Stade Louis 2, AS Monaco sank (2-3) against Benfica Lisbon.
And yet, the Monegasques dominated the opponent (2-1). This is the moment chosen by Angel Di Maria to smash the Rock. With his magnificent left paw, the world champion delivers two assists. One to Arthur Cabral in the 84th minute and the other to Mohamed Amdouni four minutes later.
With these two offerings, Di Maria is now the second best passer in the Champions League. The striker has 41 assists and is just behind Cristiano Ronaldo (42) and ahead of Lionel Messi (40).
The former Parisian could alone become the best passer in the C1. Since these two competitors left Europe will probably never return there.
