Zagreb (dpa) – Despite intensive and apparently restrictive controls, some Borussia Dortmund fans managed to take fireworks into the Dinamo Zagreb stadium. It wasn’t just BVB body Gregor Kobel who was amazed when fireworks flew around his ears in the final phase of the 3-0 (1-0) win in the Champions League game on Wednesday evening in the dilapidated Maksimir Stadium. “I didn’t fully understand that either, they were totally into me,” the Swiss said later. “From your own fans, that was still dangerous.”

Complaints about checks in the intimate area

Before the game, there were significant complaints from Dortmund fans about cross-border controls. Some would have had to undress in a tent. Others reported checks in their intimate areas. According to their own statement, BVB complained about this to UEFA. “They didn’t search that well,” joked Kobel about the controls in view of the rockets fired from the BVB block.

“We condemn this form of controls and are currently in contact with UEFA and Dinamo Zagreb in order to report and process the incidents,” the Bundesliga soccer team wrote during the game on the Internet platform X. Sports director Sebastian Kehl later simply said: “I just noticed that there was a lot of unrest in front of the stadium before the game.” The game was classified as a risky game by UEFA.
