It was a “false positive”. During a press conference this Thursday, November 28, the prefect of Saône-et-Loire Yves Séguy affirmed that the envelopes received at the Colint School training center in Chalon-sur-Saône (Saône-et-Loire) did not contain trace of plague.
In one of the folds, a white powder was suspicious. After analysis, traces of plague were first detected, the prefecture announced late in the afternoon.
The substance, described as similar to earth, was sent to a specialized laboratory in Lyon overnight. He finally communicated a negative result this morning.
Other information: the envelopes come from Slovakia, according to Commander Magali Perrin. On it, inscriptions in Cyrillic: “Merry Christmas”.
They were received at the Colint School training center, a school specializing in computer programming located in the La Sucrerie district of Chalon-sur-Saône.
Six people from the administration were in contact with the letters received. They spent the night at the Chalon-sur-Saône university hospital center in a radiological, biological and chemical nuclear structure.
This Thursday, November 28, the surveillance system is lifted. For the moment, no legal proceedings have been initiated.
