Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola apologized for saying “I want to hurt myself” while his face was covered in scratches.

The Manchester City coach appeared with red marks on his face and head after seeing his team concede three goals in the final minutes of the match against Feyenoord.

Speaking during his post-match press conference, Guardiola commented: “I want to hurt myself” when asked about the scratches, adding: “My finger here is making the motion of scratching my nail.”

But the Spanish coach has now issued a statement saying he did not mean to take his words lightly by hurting himself.

“I was surprised by a question at the end of the press conference last night about a scratch that appeared on my face and I explained that a sharp fingernail had accidentally caused it,” Guardiola said.

He added: “My response was in no way intended to belittle the very serious issue of self-harm.”

He continued, “I know that many people suffer from mental health problems every day, and I would like to take this opportunity to highlight one way in which people can seek help, by calling the Samaritans hotline on 116 123 or sending an email to [email protected].”

Guardiola expressed his extreme frustration last night after Manchester City drew 3-3 with Feyenoord in the Champions League.

Manchester City was desperate to achieve victory after losing its previous five matches in all competitions.
