A little-known story. This Wednesday, November 27 at 9:10 p.m., C8 broadcasts the new film Win or Die with Hugo Becker, Rod Paradot and Gilles Cohen. This feature film immerses us in a very specific period of French History: the Revolution. We follow the adventures of Charette, a lieutenant in the Royal Navy, who resigns and retires to his castle in Vendée. In 1793, as popular anger grew and threatened to destabilize the government, the peasants called on Charette to take the reins of the revolt. Vincent Mottez and Paul Mignot, the directors of Win or Diehave spared no expense in offering moviegoers a life-size spectacle.
Win or Die took up residence in Puy du Fou
Indeed, many combat scenes take place in the film to accurately show the royalist insurrection. To immerse the viewer in realistic settings, the two directors have placed their bags in a unique setting: Puy du Fou. With a budget of less than 5 million euros, Win or Die was filmed almost entirely in the theme park, in winter with its horses and sets. A way to optimize the budget. “The Puy du Fou is anchored in a territory deeply marked by the Vendée War (1793-96). It is therefore a familiar theme for the Puy du Fou, which, on the other hand, is much less so in outside Vendée and the great West. A large part of the public will discover this little-known page in the history of France. said the directors.
Win or Die : the intense preparation of Hugo Becker
Hugo Becker underwent intensive training to best embody Charette. He filmed with Puy du Fou stuntmen and trained in fencing and horse riding. “He really went out of his way to do his galloping and fighting scenes himself. He prepared a lot and was involved. He is very demanding of himself and attentive to every detail”, the directors said in an interview.
