Criminal record
In March 2001, the Brussels Court of Appeal convicted Yassine Akki of raping a minor. The victim had+ 16 years completed” at the time of the facts. He was in his twenties. The Molenbeekois was then sentenced to 4 years’ imprisonment with 5 years suspended for half the sentence. On October 20, 1998, the criminal court sentenced him to 10 months in prison for theft, using break-in, climbing or false keys.
The decision not to appoint Mr. Akki as alderman”follows the facts related to a judicial conviction concerning facts when Yassine Akki was 19 years old”, specifies the PS. “These facts date back around thirty years and since then, Yassine Akki has fully reintegrated into society. Now aged 48, he started a family, is married and the father of six children, and is engaged in political action in favor of the most vulnerable populations of Molenbeek.”
The PS embarks with the PTB in Molenbeek; in Schaerbeek, tensions are slowly easing between the PS and the MR
The PS-PTB majority not threatened
“In the sole interest of Molenbeek residents and my voters, who have placed their trust in me, I have chosen to take a step aside so as not to harm the establishment of the majority this Sunday. Molenbeek residents can count on my determination to continue my fights for more social justice”declared Yassine Akki.
Outgoing alderman Jamel Azaoum is expected to replace him as aldermanic candidate.
Yassine Akki remains municipal councilor. This withdrawal will therefore have no impact on the political balance in Molenbeek since its 820 preference votes remain in the socialist basket. The PS-PTB majority is therefore not weakened by these changes.
