A Malden man was charged with shoplifting $1,700 in clothing from the Lululemon store in the Prudential Center, which has been victimized by shoplifters several times in recent weeks, police said.
Around 3:18 p.m. on Monday, officers responded to a reported larceny in progress at the store. They confronted Michael E. Gouthro, 52, as he was heading to the store’s exit, police said in a statement.
“Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect walking down a staircase towards the exit,” police said. “Officers were able to stop the suspect and could see that his arm was pinned to his body as he was attempting to conceal something.”
Officers allegedly recovered clothing with “store tags on them” that were returned to the store manager, police said.
Gouthro was charged with larceny over $1,200, according to court records. He pleaded not guilty in Boston Municipal Court and was released on personal recognizance, according to court records. He was ordered to stay away from the store, records show.
The same store was targeted by alleged shoplifters earlier this month and in September.
