Panic in Saint-Étienne. A man armed with two knives and appearing threatening was shot dead by municipal police this Tuesday evening, we learned Le Figaro from consistent sources. The man allegedly threatened a woman near the prefecture. The public prosecutor and the city mayor, Gaël Perdriau, are on site.
According to our preliminary information, the events took place late in the afternoon, when several businesses in the city center contacted the national police to report an individual who “wanted to take action in the Christmas market”we are told.
A woman taken hostage
The individual thus took a woman hostage with two knives. “He would not have uttered religious words”we specify from an administrative source, but “these elements remain to be confirmed”.
The municipal police, deployed, went to the scene and opened fire, confronted with the aggressive behavior of the individual. Treatment was provided to the assailant, who died of his injuries. A security perimeter has been deployed.
