“Enemies of the Republic and the nation”: Christian Estrosi wants to file a complaint against two LFI deputies

On the set of BFM this Tuesday, the mayor of accused Jean-Luc Mélenchon's party of holding an “anti-French and anti-national extremist position”. Christian Estrosi also announced that he was going to “file a complaint” against two LFI deputies, Eric Coquerel and Ugo Bernalicis, for “intelligence with the enemy” et “apology of terrorism”.

This last offense, registered in the Penal Code since 2014, is precisely the subject of a bill aimed at its repeal carried by the deputy of the North, Ugo Bernalicis, supported by his counterpart from Seine-Saint-Denis, Eric Coquerel . The two far-left parliamentarians believe that this penalization was “misguided” for political purposes.

“Political instrumentalization”

“In the name of apologizing for terrorism, in reality we are attacking the freedom of expression of trade unionists and political parties”says Eric Coquerel. A “instrumentalization” which would find, according to Ugo Bernalicis, a perfect illustration in the remarks made this Tuesday by Christian Estrosi against him. On his social networks he also thanks the mayor of Nice for “provide such a clear example of the problem”. The LFI deputy for the 2nd district of the North even seems to doubt that a complaint will really be filed. “Too bad, I would have loved for a zealous prosecutor to prosecute and for a trial to take place to show the absurdity of maintaining this crime”he quips.

For his part, Christian Estrosi indicates that he will complete his legal process, considering that the two LFI deputies are “enemies not only of the Republic but of the nation”. And further assures that he has gathered the support of “three of the four associations of victims of the attack of July 14, 2016” who said they were ready to consult their board of directors “to find out if they will become a civil party”.
