Dominique Besnehard, initially a casting director, was the artistic agent of many stars with whom he became friends, before turning to production.
The one who grew up in Vire Normandy was one of the main guests of the last Book fair, organized in January 2024 in his city, where he had already told us about his project, that of his new series which begins Wednesday November 27, 2024on television on France 2.
What is this series about?
“It’s the story of a Parisian cabaret iconic threatened with closure in order to be transformed into a supermarket. His heir will fight to find money to save him and continue to support him against the advice of everyone and his family in particular. The casting is prodigious, including Alex Lutz who plays the main role, Monica Bellucci, Charlotte de Turckheim, Bernard Le Coq and Anne Marivin. For my part, I play the role of Régis, the fairly strict head of protocol in the cabaret room. “.
When was it filmed?
“The filming was carried out November 2023 until the end of February 2024. This new television series that I am co-producing is called “That’s Paris!” “. This fiction has the world of cabaret as a backdrop. This was filmed by director Marc Fitoussi partly in the Paris region and at the “Paris Latin” cabaret. I hope that this great prestigious series written by the same authors as “Ten pour cent”, and which has 6 episodes, will experience the same success. In this scenario, a second season, a sequel, could be considered.”
How did you come up with this idea, this subject?
» When I worked as an agent at Artmedia, there was a famous place of l’avenue Georges V in Paris which was close to our offices. Just opposite, there was a café where I used to go, where I met renowned actors before our meetings, but also the dancers from this cabaret who told me about their lives. Fifteen years later, when I made the series “Ten percent,” one of these dancers came to see me and gave me the idea of setting up a project about life and behind the scenes of such an establishment.
It's true that I have always been fascinated by this environment of lights, of rhinestones, glitterfeathers or pretty costumes. I remember that when my parents took a few days off in November each year, they treated themselves to the show at the Casino de Paris and brought me the program. An attraction for this universe that my meeting with Line Renaud confirmed much later.
