Why electric cars should cost more in 2025 in

We suspected it, it is confirmed: the ecological bonus for electric cars should be much less generous in 2025. All segments of the population would be affected, while utility vehicles are completely removed from the list. Here's what to expect.

Rumors had been buzzing for several weeks: government aid for the purchase of an electric car would be severely reduced in 2025. We had recently had confirmation of the pure and simple elimination of the conversion bonus, but we were still waiting of the decision concerning the ecological bonus.

A wait which would be about to be completed, according to The Echoeswho announced that the amounts would have been frozen. If the bonus remains retained, in accordance with the promise of the previous government, the reductions are very real.

From 7,000 to 4,000 euros maximum

Until December 31, 2024, the ecological bonus is 4,000 euros for all households, extendable to 7,000 euros for households whose reference tax income is less than or equal to 15,400 euros per share.

Storing solar energy has never been easier

No need to be an electrician to collect and store solar energy. Zendure's Hyper 2000 is a Plug & Play solution that is very easy to install at home… and capable of generating up to 600 euros of electricity per year!

Still according to information from Echoesan additional level would be created, while all the amounts will be revised downwards. In detail:

  • The first five deciles (less than 15,400 euros per share in 2024): 4,000 euros
  • From the sixth to the eighth decile: 3,000 euros
  • Beyond: 2,000 euros

Another subject of tension: utility vehicles would be removed from the list altogether. Too bad, in a context where companies must electrify their fleets.

Note that social leasing, confirmed for 2025, still seems to be under discussion. However, the amounts and eligibility criteria should also probably be tightened.

What effect on sales figures?

This is bad news for customers and brands, after a gloomy year 2024 in the field of electric cars – not to mention that the tightening of European anti-pollution standards, the famous CAFE standard, is forcing brands to increase their 100% electric sales under penalty of heavy fines.

This announcement could, however, act as an electric shock for households considering purchasing an electric car, who could take action before December 31. Enough to benefit from a flood of new registrations in the first quarter of 2025.

The rest of the year, however, is likely to be more complicated, even if the arrival of more affordable vehicles, such as the Citroën ë-C3, the Fiat Grande Panda, the new versions of the electric R5 or even the Hyundai Inster could support growth.
