Mayor of Paris since 2014, Anne Hidalgo announced that she would not be a candidate for a third term in 2026.

The rumor has been growing since the end of the Olympic Games, it is now official. In an interview with Le Monde, Anne Hidalgo announced that she would not be a candidate for a third term in 2026 at the head of the city of Paris. “All the opinion studies which objectify what Parisians think of Anne Hidalgo's record show dissatisfaction of an unequaled level when we compare studies on mayors of other large cities. So there is a real sanction”estimates Florence Berthout, Horizons mayor of the 5th arrondissement of Paris.

The announcement comes a week after her former first deputy Emmanuel Grégoire, with whom she is at odds, declared himself a candidate.“By dint of inconsistencies and the effects of announcements with misleading results, it is also a way for the inhabitants of the capital to draw the consequences of dissatisfaction”adds the mayor.
