“If they continue like this, I will die”: Luis Castro can’t believe his eyes after Dunkirk – Ajaccio (1-0)!

With a dominant and extremely convincing performance against an AC which still travels just as badly, the USL has just collected its 28th point of the season in the space of 14 days by beating the Corsicans (1-0) in front of its audience! A success which sees the Maritimes in 2nd place (tied with the leader, FC), at this rate of two points per match which very often allows them to be promoted from Ligue 2 at the end of the season. Always as demanding, the coach Luis Castro does not yet look at the ranking but at all the opportunities wasted by his players, who according to him should have scored a very large number of goals and folded the match instead of leaving the visitors in the game.

“I am happy with the victory but not with the result (the score, editor’s note). In my entire life, this is the match that could have ended with the most goals. We have twenty shots and in the 20, there are maybe ten that are very clear, very close to the goal. The players don't do it on purpose, I'm sure. It was just another day without today. It's still good to win. The efficiency wasn't the best, but we brought the balls out from behind, we played collectively with great technical gestures. Even in the box, we made a lot of good choices because to hit 20 times, you have to choose very well the “guy” who is alone. I think we had a close to perfect match. Twenty shots to one… We can't say they had a bad match! But with good efficiency, this is the match which could have been the one with the highest score of the season. »

“(In the locker room), I told the players that if they continue like this, I will die! I was very close to death today, my body is not made to handle that […]. ! We defended well, but it wasn't just from behind. The defensive line was very good but also the attackers, the midfield… We didn't give Ajaccio many opportunities to make good passes. It's important too. Now for the cup, we're going to do our best to have a good match (against , N2). »
