Who is Călin Georgescu?
The personality of Călin Georgescu, formed around a critical discourse towards the big international structures and a conservative vision, has provoked contradictory reactions, being accused, paradoxically, of links with Russia and of right-wing extremism.
Born in 1962, Călin Georgescu began his career in the environmental field, obtaining a PhD in pedology and coordinating government projects, including the National Sustainable Development Strategy. At the international level, he was a member of the Club of Rome and held positions within the UN, his professional reputation being anchored in the issue of sustainable development.

Georgescu was first proposed as prime minister by AUR in 2020, but later withdrew from the party, continuing to express his radical positions on his own. He repeatedly argued that Romania should adopt a policy of neutrality, contesting the involvement of NATO and the European Union in the country's foreign policy. In the context of the conflict in Ukraine, his pro-Russian statements, such as the statement that “the American military industry is manipulating the situation in Ukraine”, attracted harsh criticism from supporters of a pro-Western orientation, according to Romania TV.
