Guest of the show l'Equipe de Greg on the Channel l'Equipe, Dimitri Payet looked back on his good years at Olympique de Marseille.
Dimitri Payet undeniably remains one of the recent legends of Olympique de Marseille. Passed by the Marseille club from 2013 to 2015 then from 2017 to 2023, the French attacking midfielder, who currently wears the colors of Vasco de Gama, spoke on The Channel L’Equipe. He explains why he returned to OM after his time at West Ham.
“My duty was to return to Marseille for my family. Football is my whole life, but if there is something above football, it’s my family. It was a family choice”
Now a Vasco De Gama player, Payet was led to compare the French fervor to that of the Brazilian supporters.
“The pressure after 10 years in Marseille can be found a little here. I feel like I haven't left Marseille as the supporters are so extreme” he said.
“Football, Brazil, the Maracana etc… these are words that click when you love football, when you are passionate” he explains to justify his transfer to Brazil.
