It was almost midnight, around 11:50 p.m. according to the firefighters, this Saturday, November 23, 2024, when a teenager died in the center of Ploubezre, a town located very close to Lannion, in the Côtes d'Armor.

Quickly on site, emergency services were only able to note the death of the 15-year-old driver, who apparently violently hit the church wall.

The exact circumstances of the accident remain to be determined, but the Saint-Brieuc public prosecutor provided some important details this Monday.

According to the first elements of the investigation, “it appears to result that the gendarmerie crew had decided to carry out a check on the moped rider, after noting that the vehicle's registration plate appeared to be partly obscured” notes Nicolas Heitz in a press release.

“Despite the sound and light warnings being activated, the driver accelerated then braked several times, without stopping at the injunctions thus formulated. It was upon arriving in the village of Ploubezre, near the church, that the driver turned around and, without being aware of the turn, continued straight on and ended up hitting a wall.”

The public prosecutor confirms that the victim, who died on the spot, is a 15-year-old teenager, resident of the town of Ploubezre. “His body was transported to the Rennes forensic institute for a complete analysis of the medical causes of death.”

What role exactly did the gendarmes play? The investigation will determine this. It was entrusted to the IGGN (the general inspection of the national gendarmerie) and the Rennes research section jointly seized on instructions from the public prosecutor's office.

The public prosecutor of Saint-Brieuc specifies for the moment that “the criminal investigation technicians went to the scene to make precise findings. As it stands, no trace of impact was noted between the gendarmerie vehicle and the motorcycle. The 600 cc motorcycle belonged to the young man's family.”
