Hakim Ziyech, the Galatasaray winger, was at the center of attention this Saturday as he missed what can only be described as the worst chance of 2024 during his team’s clash against Bodrum FK in the Turkish league.
A ball delivered by Victor Osimhen found Ziyech in front of an open goal, but in a shocking turn of events, the Moroccan managed to send the ball soaring almost out of the stadium.
Fortunately for Ziyech and the Turkish league leaders, they did not require the goal that he so notoriously squandered. Fans, left scratching their heads and replaying the incident over and over, struggle to comprehend how such a straightforward opportunity was missed.
This blunder unfolded while Galatasaray was already leading the match. In the 65th minute, Belgian forward Michi Batshuayi attempted to control the ball but lost it. However, his teammate, Nigerian Victor Osimhen, seized the rebound and charged towards the opposing goalkeeper, Diogo Costa, unopposed.

Typically, the instinctive Osimhen would have taken on the shot himself, but instead, he opted to square the ball to Ziyech, who only needed to tap it into the net. But that’s not how it played out.
The uneven pitch resulted in Osimhen’s pass bouncing awkwardly, and when Ziyech went for the finish, his shot ended up halfway up the stands.
In fact, the ball nearly cleared the protective barricade and came precariously close to leaving the stadium altogether.
Social media was ablaze with jokes and memes targeting Ziyech, with many commentators claiming that he is no longer the same player who once shone at Ajax in the Netherlands and Chelsea in the Premier League.
