In the first round of the presidential elections, the big surprise Călin Georgescu obtained over two million votes and will probably go to the grand final election together with the USR representative, Elena Lasconi, who overtook the PSD candidate, Marcel Ciolacu, after a recovery race over night as results came in from large polling stations in urban areas and abroad.

Elena Lasconi's lead increased from a few tens to a few hundred votes in front of Marcel Ciolacu. The trend seems clearly in her favor, given that the results are now coming in from the sections abroad, where the USR representative obtained almost ten times more votes than the PSD candidate.
It should be noted that independentist Călin Georgescu also won in the diaspora voting stations, where – at the time of publication of this news – he had over 43% of the votes.
Lasconi is also in second place in the diaspora, with almost 27% of the votes, far behind Marcel Ciolacu, who is in sixth place abroad, with less than 3% of the votes.
USR reported on Monday morning that Elena Lasconi entered the second round and asked Marcel Ciolacu to admit defeat.
