Trailing at the break, the Aiglons finally found the key against the Alsatians (2-1) this Sunday at the Allianz Riviera.
And in the end it's still Nice who comes out on top. Since their defeat against Saint-Étienne (8-0) last September, the Aiglons have gotten into the habit of not losing in Ligue 1. Against Strasbourg, Franck Haise's men signed their eighth consecutive match without defeat. However, in an Allianz Riviera that sounded hollow, the game was far from won.
Nice is trailing at the break
In an enclosure of 45,000 seats which was not full, the Aiglons embarked on a meeting with a disjointed pace. Combining the highlights and the downtimes, you had to be on your toes so as not to doze off during this long round of observation. Fortunately, to wake up the spectators, Dilane Bakwa punished the locals pressing high without warning (20th). With a precise strike, the 22-year-old winger scored his second goal in Ligue 1 this season. Revengeful, the reds and blacks had two great opportunities to equalize in quick succession (21st and 29th) before falling back into a calmer rhythm consisting of making their opponents run without being dangerous. Returning from the locker room to the whistles of the supporters, the Alsatians seemed to achieve the perfect shot.
Carefree youth condemns Strasbourg
From the whistle symbolizing the start of the second act, things changed. Nice showed a different face and was much sharper. If the Aiglons came close to equalizing twice (47th and 53rd), with a magical service from Sofiane Diop, Melvin Bard put the two teams back on level terms (54th). A goal which carried his team, who continued to appear dangerous. Impeccable until now, the young Abakar Sylla (21 years old) has committed the irreparable. Cornered by the untenable Evan Guessand, on another good service from Diop behind the defense, the Ivorian got ahead of his opposite number but surprised his goalkeeper with a hazardous service from behind. A terrible own goal which condemned his team (62nd) and his meeting, the young defender left annoyed two minutes later.
Nice then turned back to maintain its result and could have worsened the score at the very end of the match with Bard (90+2) and Laborde (90+3) who fell on a Petrovic in form.
With this significant success, Nice continues its rise and climbs to 5th place in the ranking ahead of Lyon while Racing Club de Strasbourg, beaten for the fourth time in five days, stagnates in 11th place.
