The Seattle Sounders with Swiss goalkeeper Stefan Frei are in the playoff semi-finals of the American Major League Soccer. They beat Los Angeles FC 2:1 after extra time.
In Los Angeles, the home team, whose starting eleven included Frenchmen Hugo Lloris and Olivier Giroud, initially took the lead. An own goal brought the visitors back into the game, which was not decided in regulation time despite a clear advantage in chances for Los Angeles. The 38-year-old goalkeeper Frei, who won the league title with Seattle in 2016 and 2019, kept his team in the game with some spectacular saves.
The game was decided in the 109th minute when Jordan Morris scored from a corner kick to make it 2:1 for the visitors. Seattle thus surprisingly beat Los Angeles, who had started the play-offs as the qualifying winners in the West. Frei and Co. will face the winner of the match between LA Galaxy and Minnesota United in the semi-final.
