The center forward first ideally launched Joaquin Correa, established in the absence of Martinez, who scored, by lobbing Verona goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipo, his first league goal in more than two years (17e). Thuram doubled the lead four minutes later when he took advantage of a Verona marking error to dribble past Montipo and score his first league goal since his hat-trick against Torino on October 5.
His second goal of the afternoon, his ninth of the season in the league, resembles the first: starting on the edge of offside, he brought the score to 3-0 by getting the better of Montipo. The Verona goalkeeper went for the ball in his net two more times before the break, on a strike from Stefan de Vrij (31e) and a combination concluded by Yann Bisseck (41e).
