After experiencing the snow and freezing cold brought by the Caetano storm, France will enjoy a particularly mild weekend for the season. In forty-eight hours, the thermometer should rise by almost 15°C! Temperatures exceeding 22°C are particularly expected in the South-West with very good sunshine to be expected. But this will not be true everywhere. In the northern part, the weather will even be particularly unstable with precipitation and wind. But not cold. We explain why.
Thursday and even this Friday, France was shivering. In Brittany, Normandy, the Paris region and the Grand-Est, people thanked (or cursed) Caetano for having deposited so many snowflakes on the ground. In Franche-Comté, thousands of trucks were immobilized, elsewhere thousands of homes were without electricity. The announcement of a harsh winter? Not so sure. Because from Saturday, hot air coming from the south will warm up the country.

According to Cyril Wuest, of The Weather Channel, “this mild spell will be caused by a strong southerly wind in our country”. To the point, even, that clearings could offer us “a little air of spring”, according to the meteorologist. Imagine that on Sunday, the Basque Country, the Mediterranean coasts and Corsica should see the mercury exceed 22°C. Rather unusual for the season.
How to explain this phenomenon? According to Météo Villes, it is the shift of a flow coming from the south “accelerated by a depression off the coast of Ireland” which will cause the temperature to rise under the effect of “the rise of particularly mild air coming directly from Morocco.
Softness records broken?
According to the site, this air mass “will be at the level of the mildest air masses observed at this time, flirting with records”. Forecasters are predicting “a sea change” this weekend. This mild weather should last for several days. But it will also be accompanied by rain, particularly in Brittany, Normandy and the Paris region.
