The Met Office has issued a weather warning ahead of this weekend’s round of Premier League matches. Liverpool and Everton are back in top-flight action on Saturday after the November international break, but may have an eye on the sky.

The Reds will travel to face Southampton on Saturday afternoon as Arne Slot’s side look to maintain or improve their five-point lead at the top of the table. Liverpool beat Aston Villa last time out to move clear of second-placed Manchester City, who lost to Brighton.

Everton are also in Premier League action on Saturday as they host Brentford at Goodison Park. The Blues are currently in 16th place in the table but are without a win in any of their top-flight fixtures. The build-up to both games, though, has seen the UK struck with inclement weather in recent days.

Snow and icy conditions across the UK has seen doubt emerge over whether some Premier League fixtures will take place this weekend. Now, the Met Office has issued a warning ahead of the first round of games after the international break.

Liverpool will face Southampton at St Mary’s and a weather warning has been issued on the south coast. A yellow warning is in place for both wind and rain that is expected to run across both Saturday and Sunday., but temperatures are set to increase with highs of 14°C.

“South or southwesterly gales, locally severe gales are likely to affect many southern counties of England from Saturday afternoon until Sunday night,” the Met Office warning for the weekend read.

“The strongest gusts will be along coasts with gusts 60-70 mph possible around exposed headlands, while elsewhere gusts of 50-60 mph are possible, even for some inland locations. The strong winds will start to ease across the southwest on Sunday morning but may take until evening before easing across the far southeast.”

For Everton’s clash against Brentford, the Met Office has not put a weather warning in place for Merseyside. However, there is a 90% chance of heavy rain falling in Liverpool, with temperatures expected to reach as high as 14°C.
