The day after the arrest of a man suspected of having killed Lilian Dejean in Grenoble on September 8, the public prosecutor held a press conference. He detailed the journey of the suspect, currently imprisoned in Portugal.
The suspect arrested Thursday in Póvoa de Lanhoso, northern Portugal, is 25 years old, “he has 19 convictions on his criminal record”declared the Grenoble prosecutor during a press conference held this Friday. Abdoul Diallo, whose identity card was found in an damaged car which he abandoned on site, is suspected of having shot and killed a Grenoble municipal agent, Lilian Dejean, on September 8.
“Abdoul Diallo is 25 years old”specified Éric Vaillant, Grenoble prosecutor. “He was first incarcerated by the Grenoble children's judge at the age of fifteen. He has 19 convictions on his criminal record, many for acts of violence, but also for drug trafficking. In total, he was sentenced to six years in prison over the last ten years.”.
The main suspect in this case, subject to a European arrest warrant, is currently detained in Portugal, “issued by the investigating judge of Grenoble. It will be handed over to this magistrate in the coming weeks”specified the Grenoble prosecutor, who said he was “incapable” to say the date of Abdoul Diallo's return to French territory.
Éric Vaillant insisted on “deeply thank the French and Portuguese police officers, as well as our fellow judges and prosecutors, here in Grenoble and in Portugal, for their excellent work”. “More than forty investigators were dedicated to this case, (…) to the hunt, to the search for the suspect”greeted Damien Delaby, deputy zonal director of the Judicial Police. “An investigation which required significant developments and technical means”.
The victim, of Guadeloupean origin, was a 49-year-old father. He was shot in the chest while trying to prevent a man from fleeing after causing a traffic accident while driving a powerful rental car registered in Poland.
