The National Votes Census Commission will proceed this Thursday at 4 p.m. to the official proclamation of the provisional results of the early legislative elections held last Sunday. The announcement will be made in room 4 of the Dakar courthouse, according to an official source.

These elections mobilized some 7.3 million Senegalese called to nominate the 165 deputies of the 15th legislature. Among these seats, 15 are reserved for Senegalese living abroad. Forty-one lists, representing political parties or coalitions, took part in this election, marked by the challenge of renewing the National Assembly.

The voting method, combining majority and proportional, allocates 112 seats to the majority vote. In this system, the list that comes first in each of the country’s 46 departments obtains all of the seats at stake. The remaining 53 seats are distributed according to a proportional system based on the overall results.

According to the results published by the departmental vote counting commissions, the Pastef list, led by Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, won a large majority in the National Assembly. This success gives the ruling party significant leverage to advance its reforms and political program.
