To avoid large-scale mobilization around Christmas and New Year, SNCF management has announced salaries rising above inflation, while the railway company faces a strike against the dismantling of Fret SNCF . Christophe, train driver and RMC auditor, explains for his part that it has only been increased by 100 euros since 2022.
A new little-attended strike by railway workers is affecting the SNCF this Thursday as they protest against the dismantling of Fret SNCF. A relief for the management of the railway company even if the specter of a major renewable strike as the holidays approach still looms.
This day of strike, presented as an “ultimatum” before a renewable movement, from December 11, was also supposed to impact salary negotiations. But management revealed its proposals yesterday: there will be no salary freeze. The SNCF is therefore proposing an overall increase in salaries above inflation: +2.2%, or 0.7 points more.
In 2 years, between 2022 and 2024, the lowest salaries at SNCF increased by 17%. Today, the lowest salary at SNCF is 1,568 euros, 142 more than the net minimum wage at 1,426 euros.
From 3,960 euros net to 4,030 in 2 years
But the account is not there deplores Christophe, train driver at the SNCF who is not striking this Thursday: “Between my bulletin for the month of October 2022 and that of 2024, I was increased by 100 euros”, assures the railway worker this Thursday on RMC and RMC Story. “I received 3,960 euros net in October 2022 and 4,030 euros in October 2024,” he explains.
A comfortable salary but with special “conditions” and “a lot of responsibilities”, explains Christophe. And this salary, far from having been increased by 17%, therefore includes staggered hours and bonuses and is not taken into account in the calculation of his retirement, explains the railway worker.
Salary negotiations must continue at SNCF. The draft agreement is subject to signature by the trade union organizations until November 29, 2024.
