- Widespread snowfall will occur on Thursday afternoon and there will be 10 to 20 centimeters of fresh snow in the lowlands by Friday and there is a risk of slippery snow.
- In the western plateau, the snow line temporarily rises to 1,300 to 1,800 meters with strong southwesterly winds.
- Freezing rain is possible in the transition zone, leading to slippery ice.
- In the western to central Alps, 60 to 80 centimeters of new snow will accumulate by Saturday morning and the danger of avalanches will increase.

During Thursday, the low “Caetano” will move over Switzerland from the west and will initially bring a warm front to us. There will be widespread snowfall from midday onwards.
Temporarily rising snow line
Due to the warm air flowing in, the snowfall limit temporarily rises to 1,300 to 1,800 meters in the west. There will also be strong to stormy gusts in French-speaking Switzerland. In western Switzerland it rains in fresh snow before the snowfall line drops back down to the lowlands at night.
Where the wind does not clear out the cold air on the ground, there is a local risk of freezing rain in the transition zone between snowfall and rain.
The snowfall line (SFG) from the west temporarily rises up to around the Bernese Mittelland.

The warm air does not reach the central and eastern regions. On the contrary: with a weak breeze, a so-called countercurrent situation sets in and it snows continuously. This will result in 10 to 20 centimeters of fresh snow.

On Friday we will be under unstable cold air at altitudes. As a result, we can expect changeable showery weather, which will only bring snow or sleet showers in places in the lowlands. It continues to snow on the northern slopes of the Alps and there will be a total of 60 to 80 centimeters of fresh snow by Saturday morning, less in the canton of Graubünden. The danger of avalanches increases.
