Stellantis has just launched its third multi-energy platform, dedicated to large vehicles. The fourth, and last, for city cars, will be ready in 2026.

A few months after the formation of Stellantis, in 2021, Carlos Tavares launched the project of rationalizing the platforms within the mega-group made up of 14 brands, with four STLA bases capable of covering the needs of the small European city car. -up XXL American.

The STLA Medium was the first in service, for compact vehicles, like the Peugeot 3008. Then there was the STLA Large, for large models, inaugurated this year by the Jeep Wagoneer S. Here is the third, the STLA Frame .

This is designed for large pick-ups and 4x4s, which will therefore mainly concern American brands. But the STLA Frame is also announced for utility vehicles, even if its application on vans offered in Europe has not yet been made official.

Proof that the STLA Frame is not really “for us”, the dimensions of the models planned for it will range from 5.49 to 5.94 meters in length. This base is also inaugurated by a RAM pick-up.

Like other STLA bases, the Frame is multi-energy. It has thus been optimized for 100% electric, but we will also find thermal, hybrid or even range extender models. The latter option combines a battery, front and rear electric motors, an onboard generator and an internal combustion engine. The thermal block does not directly drive the wheels. With this system, Stellantis promises a long range of 1,100 km.

But the all-electric is not left out. The base can accommodate huge batteries, from 159 to more than 200 kWh, with the promise of a range of 800 km. The STLA Frame was also designed to accommodate upcoming drum technologies. The electric models will have an 800V architecture, which allows a high maximum charging power of 350 kW.

Front and rear motors can go up to 250 kW. Enough to have excellent performance (0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds) as well as a maximum towing capacity of 6,350 kg and a payload of 1,224 kg.

The Frame being the third STLA base, one will be missing. This is the Small, designed for the group's urban vehicles, and therefore intended more for Europe. The Small promises to be super flexible to the point of covering the needs of segments A to C, from the small city car to the compact. The group had already mentioned batteries ranging from 37 to 82 kWh.

Carlos Tavares confirmed that the schedule mentioned in 2021 was followed, which should result in a first model based on STLA Small in 2026. This could be the replacement for the 208.
