The KNMI has issued code yellow for a large part of the country. According to the weather institute, it may be slippery locally due to winter showers. “Local slipperiness during and after hail and wet snow showers can occur suddenly and is therefore treacherous.”

The code yellow, which warns that there is a risk of dangerous weather, applies to the provinces of North and South Holland, Flevoland, Gelderland, Utrecht, Zeeland, North Brabant and Limburg.

The warning is in force until 12:00, except for North and South Holland and Zeeland. There, the code yellow will last until 10 p.m. for the time being.

In the western coastal area, locally heavy gusts of wind up to about 80 kilometers per hour are expected until tonight during showers. Near the sea, wind gusts can reach speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour.

Rijkswaterstaat calls on road users who go on the road today to be alert, referring to the weather warning from the KNMI.

The situation on the road in the south is also affected by the strikes at ProRail. Train traffic in Limburg and large parts of North Brabant will be at a standstill until 9 a.m. today due to the strike by the rail manager.

As a result, no trains run to and from places such as Den Bosch, Eindhoven, Maastricht, Sittard and Tilburg, which may lead to extra traffic on the road. The trains will run again after 9 a.m., NS reports. The railway company does warn that there may be disruption throughout the morning. In previous strikes, train traffic usually resumed quite quickly after the strike.

In the video below we explain to you what the color codes mean for the weather.
