“We loved each other sincerely”: Lara Fabian remembers with emotion her complicit relationship with Maurane

In 2025, Lara Fabian is preparing to return to the stage during a Zéniths tour. Before that, the singer went to the set of the show As an asideon Canal+, Tuesday November 19, 2024.

During the interview, she returned to old memories, notably those shared with the Belgian singer Claudine Luypaerts, also known as Maurane, who died in 2018.

Lara Fabian has recorded numerous duet songs with other artists. As for Maurane, they both performed the title You are my other.

“I miss her so much. She was one of the most beautiful voices on the planet,” says Lara Fabian, with tears in her eyes. “She told me that when she sang with me, she dove into the great lakes. I did the same. I delved into his big heart,” she adds.

A “sincere” love

The two women met through a mutual friend when Lara Fabian was barely 17 years old. “She knows that I like to sing, I go see her everywhere, I buy tickets for her shows,” says the singer.

Next comes the song You are my other which is only at the writing stage when Lara Fabian already hopes to be able to perform it with the Belgian. “It wasn’t a given. At first, she didn’t want to…”, she says. But she changes her mind when she discovers the lyrics. The title was released in 2002.

Over the years, the two women have forged strong bonds, and not just with a microphone in their hand. “My parents loved her very much. She would show up at our house with her daughter. We spent time together. We went to restaurants. It was beyond show business. There was a thing where we always shook hands very strong. We loved each other sincerely with all the conflict that intense love can have.“, she concludes.

In 2018, Maurane was found unconscious in her Brussels home following a fall, her family simply revealed in the columns of Parisianleaving Lara Fabian inconsolable.
