UPDATE. Tuesday, November 19 at 3:10 p.m.: An investigation was opened by the Chambéry public prosecutor's office. The cable car is not expected to operate for several days.
A cable car cabin at the ski resort of Val Thorens (Savoie) arrived at the Cime Caron arrival station, this Tuesday, November 19, 2024 in the morning.
According to initial information, seventeen people were in the cabin during the impact. According to information from Dauphinéthatnews Grenoble is able to confirm, several people are injured, some seriously.
Two people seriously injured
Requested by our editorial staff, the Savoie prefecture indicates that two people are seriously injured sans pronostic vital engaged and four slightly injured.
The events occurred around 7:30 a.m. this Tuesday at an altitude of more than 3,000 meters. According to the prefectural services, the weather conditions on site were very difficult.
“A cabin of the Cime Caron cable car which was used as part of a construction site in progress and transporting 16 workers and the driverhit the arrival station,” adds the prefecture. Helicopters from the firefighters as well as the CRS Alpes are engaged to rescue the victims.
The station’s first aid trackers and the PGHM are also on site. All victims and people involved are being evacuated by the Orelle-Caron gondola.
In total, nearly 120 people mobilized to help the victims.
