Discover our tops and our flops following the draw between Nice and Twente (2-2) this Thursday on the pitch of the Allianz Riviera on the occasion of the 4th day of the league phase of the Europa League.
The tops
Ndombele, rare satisfaction of the Nice starting eleven
In a starting eleven far from having met expectations, Tanguy Ndombele was present for 65 minutes. The French international midfielder was the hub of the Aiglons' play, being impressive in duels against an eye-catching Twente side. He will also have been able to close the spaces that could be exploited on the counterattacks by the Dutch. For the last 25 minutes, he gave way to Evann Guessand to allow Nice to finish with more offensive elements on the pitch.
Burping hurt
Placed on the right wing of the attack of a rejuvenated Twente team, Daan Rots put his team on the right track by taking advantage of a complicated start to the match on the Nice side to open the scoring very early. Very willful, he made certain blunders but he was one of the main threats on Marcin Bulka's cage during this meeting. Joseph Oosting wanting to keep the score, the winger gave way to Bas Kuipers for the last quarter of an hour.
Clauss-Boga-Cho, decisive entries
Unhappy with his starting lineup, Franck Haise took the bull by the horns at the start of the second period by launching Mohamed-Ali Cho and Jonathan Clauss. This was completed by the entries into play of Jérémie Boga and Evann Guessand shortly after the hour mark. Changes which gave some pep to the Aiglons and which made it possible to reverse the trend to snatch a draw. Indeed, Jérémie Boga reduced the gap on an action initiated by Evann Guessand then Mohamed-Ali Cho equalized on a cross from Jonathan Clauss. A scenario which could give regret to Nice supporters.
The flops
A fragile Nice defense
Symbol of a Nice starting eleven which did not work, the defensive trio composed of Moïse Bombito, Youssouf Ndayishimiye and Dante showed signs of feverishness. The lack of impact on Daan Rots cost the opener in the 8th minute when, at the hour mark, Sam Lammers was able to find a fault without too much difficulty. Added to this are the not necessarily relevant interventions from Dante, who picked up a yellow card at the very start of the second period before giving way to Brahim Bouanani for the last 25 minutes.
Diop did not help his family
If he was involved in the action which gave hope to the people of Nice at the start of the last 25 minutes, Sofiane Diop put his team in great difficulty when, on an intervention too late on Youri Regeer, he received a red card in the 70th minute. An error which concluded a match far from obvious for the Aiglons winger, who lost a very large number of balls and had too little impact on the Twente defense.
Laborde without solution
Aligned at the forefront of the Nice attack, Gaëtan Laborde had a very complicated 65 minutes. Indeed, he was deprived of the ball by a serene Twente defense, resulting in a very limited contribution with only one attempt failing to hit the target. And this despite constant activity to try to provide solutions to his teammates. He ended up giving way to Jérémie Boga, who participated in the relaunch of the Aiglons.
