It's high time for the coldest to bring out all the gear to face winter! A drop in temperatures et a few flakes are expected from Wednesday in part of France. “A descent of maritime polar air will cool the atmosphere in the middle of the week while three successive disturbances cause choppy weather during the period, with wind, sustained rain and sometimes snow all the way to the plains”noted Météo-France in his forecast updated this Tuesday.
Temperatures will drop over the next few hours, before a warm spell this weekend.
AIR MASS – “COLD SHARP” (11/18/2024)
Arrival of a “polar air mass”
Temperatures will drop from this Wednesday, due to the arrival of a “polar air mass” on France. “Temperatures should peak between 5 and 10 degrees at the best of the day, values comparable to the January averages”anticipates Météo-France.
Thursday morning, it will be between 0 and 2 degrees in the Grand Est, temperatures just below zero are even expected in Haute-Marne. During the day, temperatures will not exceed 5 degrees throughout the northern part of the country.
“A little layer of snow” from Pays de la Loire to Franche-Comté
From Wednesday, snow is expected on the massifs. “It will snow in the Pyrenees above 1500 to 1800 m, but much lower on the eastern relief, between 300 m and 600 m from the Vosges to the northern Alps, under showers”continues Météo-France.
But some flakes are also announced for regions less accustomed to making snowmen: “A little sleet, or even snow, may be observed in Lower Normandy”details the weather organization.
Then on Thursday, the cold will get worse and a new disturbance will bring snow all the way to the plain. So, “the regions going from Lower Normandy, to the Pays de la Loire, via the Center and Burgundy to Franche-Comté currently seem the most privileged to observe a small layer of snow on the ground”announces Météo-France. “Uncertainty is still present over the extension of the snow episode towards regions further north of this axis (Brittany, Île-de-France, Alsace-Lorraine).”
But it is especially in mid-mountains in the Alps that the snow accumulations will be the most significant “and will require special attention”underlines the forecasting organization.
Friday, “a few snow showers can still occur in the plains in the northern half, near the Channel coast in the morning, but also in the interior over a large northeastern quarter, including Île-de-France. et “a few centimeters of fresh snow could appear, particularly in the East“.
Météo-France expects temperatures “very cold” Friday morning, resulting in “sometimes severe frost”. The organization warns: “In this context of possibly still snowy ground, the risk of refreezing in the northern half is quite significant.“
