These next few days promise to be complicated for those who wish to travel: in addition to movementsmovements social and strikes, we will have to deal with a weather reportweather report very agitated. These are real winter conditions which will set in early, with every day a new risk.
A gust of wind at the start of the week
A gale sweeps across the north-west of France between this Monday evening and Tuesday morning: the strongest gusts of wind will start from 8 p.m. and continue until the next morning. They will reach 80 to 90 km/h along the coast of Normandy and Hauts-de-France. With a jet stream which will circulate right over France in the coming days, the southwest wind will affect the entire northern half of the country on Tuesday. Associated with rain, the feeling will be very bad.
Heavy rain with risk of flooding
Heavy rain will fall in the northwest this Monday afternoon and evening, before affecting the entire northern half during the night and during the day on Tuesday in the form of more or less violent showers. The highest accumulations will occur in Seine-Maritime and the Somme, with 50 to 80 millimeters expected. With rivers already on the verge of overflowing, flooding is possible.
A brutal cold snap from Wednesday
Temperatures will drop sharply in the evening of Tuesday, with a northerly flow. Wednesday and Thursday will be two freezing days, with values well below the seasonal averages, worthy of January locally. We are forecasting barely 4°C in Paris and Lyon on Thursday afternoon and 2°C in Nancy.
The first snowfalls in the plains
For the first time this season, snow will fall at very low altitudes, and probably in the plains on Thursday and Friday. It is currently impossible to determine which departments will be affected by a small white dusting in the morning, apart from the Grand Est region which seems very exposed. The west, the far north, Ile-de-France, and even the south-east are not immune to risk and it will be necessary to monitor the weather developments until the last moment.
In the mountains, snow will fall abundantly with impressive accumulations between Wednesday and Friday, especially in the Northern Alps. On the other hand, this winter weather does not look likely to last: temperatures will rise again from the weekend.
