The Serbian football team drew 0:0 with Denmark in Leskovac, and the match was marked by a huge number of missed chances by our national team.

On Sportal, you can also watch other League of Nations matches live, including the matches played by the so-called Kosovo or Croatia.

Right at the start of the match in Leskovac, it was clear that the “eagles” did not come out to defend themselves, but that they would do their best to win and reach the quarterfinals. Dušan Vlahović had the first chance of the match in the second minute, when he shot wide after Aleksa Terzić’s cross from the left side. However, the Danes didn’t have the idea to save themselves either, so Đorđe Petrović recorded the first save in the next attack, after Gustav Isaksen’s shot from distance.

Vlahović had a new opportunity in the fifth minute, when he shot on the counterattack. The Juventus forward shot the far corner from the right, but Kasper Schmeichel reacted perfectly. The experienced goalkeeper then made another great save in the seventh minute, when Andrija Živković tried to threaten him from a drop kick, after the ball landed at his feet just a few meters from the goal.

The “Eagles” were then severely damaged in the eighth minute of the match, when Victor Nelson played with his hand in his penalty area. Denmark’s stopper was hit in the hand by the ball, and referee Felix Zweier did not point to the penalty spot, while to the surprise of all present, confirmation of his controversial decision came from the VAR room.

In the 13th minute, Serbian captain Aleksandar Mitrović shot from the edge of the penalty area, Šmajhel remained “frozen”, but luckily for him the ball went right past the post. Soon after, center forward Al Hilal threatened again, only this time with a header after Živković’s cross, but once again he was not accurate.

Then, in the 19th minute, the Serbian national team asked for a penalty once again, since after a shot by Živković, the ball hit one of the Danish players, but this time there was really no hand. During the next 120 seconds, the goal “hung in the air”, but the net did not shake. First, Janik Vestergard blocked Lazar Samardžić, then Strahinja Pavlović shot straight at Kasper Šmajhel, and in the end Aleksandar Mitrović launched the ball high over the crossbar.

After that, a somewhat calmer period of play followed, which was interrupted by two huge chances from the Danes. First, Mikel Damsgaard shot in the crowd after a free kick, Đorđe Petrović hooked the ball a bit, which Aleksandar Mitrović then cleared from the goal line. Not long after, the goalkeeper of our national team made another fantastic save, as he prevented Jusuf Poulsen from beating him in a ‘one-on-one’ situation on the counter.

Dušan Vlahović had another great opportunity in the 34th minute, who ran into the opponent’s penalty area from the left side, but he did not shoot well, but got tangled up and Kasper Šmajhel saved the net again. By the end of the half, the Eagles had two more opportunities, both of which were missed by Aleksandar Mitrović. The popular “Mitrogol” first shot inaccurately from a long distance in the 36th minute, and then attempted a header after Andrija Živković’s cross, but once again over the goal.

The opening minutes of the second half did not bring any new chances, and the most important detail was the injury of one of the best players of the guests, Jusuf Poulsen. From that moment on, Denmark’s coach Brian Rimer set defensive tactics, as instead of an attacker, he put Kristian Norgaard, Brentford’s defensive midfielder, on the field.

After a quarter of an hour of play in the second part, the first attempt of the “eagles” was seen. Vlahović shot from a free kick, but it was not accurate. The same player threatened a few minutes later with an excellent shot from a distance, but Schmeichel prevented it from shaking the net with a phenomenal parry. In the continuation of the same action, the striker of the “Old Lady” of Turin once again tried a shot, but the ball went past the post.

Both teams had one big chance in the period that followed. First, in the 70th minute, Kristijan Eriksen shot from the heart of the penalty area just past the goal post of Đorđe Petrović, and then in the 75th, on the other side, Aleksandar Mitrović’s header was inaccurate again after Andrija Živković’s cross.

Dušan Vlahović had another great chance in the 79th minute. The attacker of our national team ended the counterattack of the “eagles” with a weaker, right-footed shot, but sent the ball over the goal. A little later, he suffered an injury, which forced him to leave the field, and was replaced by Kosta Nedeljković.

7′ Another chance for Serbia. Živković shot from the right side, but Šmajhel reacted perfectly.

5′ New chance for Vlahović. The Juventus forward shot on the counterattack, aimed for the far corner from the right, but his shot was stopped by Schmeichel.

Best against Switzerland

After a draw in Zurich against Switzerland, the Eagles remained in the fight for passage.

Denmark, on the other hand, is coming off a heavy defeat at the hands of the European champions, Spain. Here is the calculation and why this match has “triple value”.

Before the duel with Denmark, Serbian coach Dragan Stojković Pixi announced.

I will repeat: We have reached the end of this League of Nations. The match with Denmark represents the “most important” category. There is nothing more important. We knew that Switzerland and Denmark would be of crucial importance for our status when looking at the table. We are aware of the importance of the match.

We will be ready to welcome her. The players should use every second for a good rest, for the energy they need tomorrow and be convinced that we will do our best to solve the match in our favor.

Dragan Stojkovic

You can follow the live broadcast of the duel starting at 20:45 on the first program of RTS and on the channel Arena Sport 1 Premium. There are also personnel problems.

Not the best, I have to admit. We face problems in September, October, November is no different. Srđan Babić has already flown away, I think he has also landed in his club. He has a problem with his knee, he will continue treatment there.

There is Pavlović, who has the right to play, so we will put him in that position. As for the others, no one complained, the medical team didn’t tell me anything, so everyone is ready.

I hope to make good decisions about the team that will take the field tomorrow.

Will Leskovac be “third lucky” after Bulgaria and Switzerland?

Leskovac has always been an environment that I loved and still love. I spent time here in the army. Whether we play a match or not, I will never change my mind.

It is true that this is the third time that the best selection plays here, we feel support and affection from all the people. I think it will be the same tomorrow.

It’s harder to be a coach, it’s easier to be a footballer. These are completely two different categories of work. When I decided to do this job, I was most attracted by creativity, which I need to convince some people across from you, and you are on a common path to achieve success and results… To write history, for people to appreciate you.

The selector position is not easy. Expectations are always high, you are looking for that kind of victory, success, and sometimes it is not easy to get there. The most important thing is that we have a fair attitude towards everyone, that is the highest level of responsibility. You can play in the club or not, but from the responsibility in the national team comes the desire and desire to show yourself in the best light.
