The day after the action of the Young Farmers and the FNSEA, it will be the turn of the Rural Coordination to raise its anger. On Tuesday, November 19, the union plans a punch action in the center of Bordeaux, and particularly in front of the prefecture.
The mobilized farmers will leave at 5:30 a.m. from Créon, in Gironde, to reach Bordeaux.
No snail operation but a “surprise” at the prefecture
Rural Coordination is clear: there is no no blocking or snail operation planned. The procession, which will include tractors and light vehicles, will however pass through the ring road. This could therefore significantly slow down traffic around 6 a.m.
Once in Bordeaux, the route through the city center has not been communicated. We only know that the representatives of the Rural Coordination must meet the prefect at 10:30 a.m.at the prefecture. “And we are planning a surprise in front of the building,” specifies a member of the union, without wanting to say more.
What do farmers hope for from this meeting? “We want to re-explain to the prefect what we told him when he came to our farms in the spring,” explains Rural Coordination. We are going to take stock again, restore our expectations. »
What farmers are asking for
Concretely, the union demands fewer restrictive standards and wants to depend on European standards. He also asks lighter taxation“because the price of taxes on water and energy make our lives impossible,” explains our interlocutor.
As for the EU-Mercosur agreements, “let's not even talk about it: it's chaos, the red line that must not be crossed”. Once signed, the agreements should enable facilitate the import of agricultural products from Latin America. And this could also have a direct impact on consumers' purchasing power.
