“The coming week will be very turbulent with rain, gales and snow at lower altitudes,” announces Lyon Météo. The week which opens will therefore be wintery with several risks of bad weather over a good part of France including the Lyon region.

The Rhône was placed in yellow vigilance strong winds for this Tuesday, November 19, 2024 by Météo France. Snow is possible in the department between Thursday and Friday night.

We take stock of the possible snowfall which should arrive at the end of the week. Until then, a turbulent scenario is confirmed for the start of the week.

The arrival of cold and violent winds

It is Tuesday that rain disturbance begins in Lyon with minimum temperatures of 5°C and maximum 11°C (only one degree below seasonal norms). The wind will start to pick up with gusts to 45 km/h in the city. On Wednesday, rain should continue to fall in the Lyon metropolis.

On Wednesday, temperatures will start to drop with a minimum of 5°C and a maximum of 8°C, rain in the morning and clearing for the rest of the day are forecast.

“The snow will continue to be abundant in the northern Alps and the wind will blow very strongly in the Mediterranean and Corsica, with gusts close to 80 km/h,” according to La Chaîne Météo.

On Thursday, gusts of 60 km/h are forecast in Lyon in the afternoon.

The drop in temperatures with winter mercury will be felt on Thursday with 2°C minimum in Lyon9°C maximum.

First snowflakes possible at the end of the week

Météo France reports a very cold weekend with a minimum of 0°C on Friday and a maximum of 5°C. This Saturday it will be even colder with -1°C minimum and a rise of up to 13°C maximum.

The first snowflakes on the Rhône are expected from Thursday morning in the north, in Beaujolais, in the Tarare sector, in the southwest towards the Loire/Rhône limit or even towards Soucieu-en-Jarrest.

Thursday afternoon, snowflakes are expected again in the north and Tarare. In the rest of the department, rain is in the forecast. The program is the same in the evening then at night.

More snow on Friday in the Rhône, Lyon spared?

The snowiest day of the week could be Friday November 22 with snow showers from the morning across the entire northern Rhône, the areas of Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise and Soucieu-en-Jarrest.

On Friday, the northwest flow could remain unstable behind with low temperatures. In this configuration, it is therefore possible that the snow showers will reach the level of the plain between Lorraine, Alsace and Rhône-Alpes in particular, even if for the moment, it is still too early to announce it.

The east of the Lyon metropolis could also be affected by snowfall, towards Pusignan and its surroundings. In the afternoon and evening, the snowy trend is expected to continue.

Lyon and its metropolis should be spared from snowfall, at this stage according to forecasts dated Monday, November 18. Friday will be the coldest day in Lyon with a minimum of -1°C in the morning and 5°C in the afternoon. During the night from Friday to Saturday, it could be 0°C.

The situation may, however, evolve throughout this “very turbulent” week, meteorologists warn.
