“King John” still ahead. For the second consecutive awakening, Jean Le Cam (Everything begins in Finistère – Armor-Lux) is at the head of the provisional ranking of the Vendée Globe on Sunday November 17, ahead of the Swiss Alan Roura (Hublot, + 20.58 nm) and Sébastien Simon (Group Dubreuil, +34.65 nm). After a week of racing, the fleet heads towards Cape Verde and is divided into three groups, those leaving from the west, those in favor of a more direct route and the two leaving to the east, Jean Le Cam and Conrad Colman (MS Amlin).

If the last option initially paid off, the lead over the pursuers is reduced. The skippers in the west have gained speed in recent hours (between 15 and 20 knots) unlike those in the east (less than 10 knots). The two skippers of Vulnerable Sam Goodchild and Thomas Ruyant, who had chosen the west, took the opportunity to jibe, which allowed them to move up the rankings (6th and 16th respectively).

The night was, however, more complicated for Louis Burton, victim of damage to his Imoca Bureau Vallée. The navigator warned his team during the night after having “heard a very disturbing noise on board”, reports on the organizers' website. After an inspection of the boat, he noted cracks on the deck of his Imoca”, what could “affect the structural integrity of your boat”. Louis Burton, however, announced that he would remain in the race but must carry out repairs. He gybed in the middle of the night and headed southeast to work on the pont and focus on repairingexplains Fabien Delahaye, from race management.
