Cyprus is bracing for severe weather as Storm Alexandros approaches the island, bringing rain, thunderstorms, hail, strong winds and possible sleet, with a yellow weather warning in effect from 10:00 p.m. tonight until late tomorrow.

Despite a clear start in many areas today, conditions are expected to deteriorate as clouds gather, bringing isolated showers and thunderstorms.

The meteorological service warns of potential hail and strengthening winds during storm activity, with conditions intensifying during evening hours.

Temperatures are forecast to reach 24 degrees Celsius inland and along the coast, dropping to 13 degrees in higher the mountains.

Tomorrow will be predominantly cloudy with intermittent local rainfall and isolated thunderstorms. Forecasters warn of possible hail during storms, with some areas experiencing intense weather conditions. The Troodos mountain peaks may see sleet by nightfall.

Monday will remain mostly overcast with localised rain and scattered thunderstorms, particularly affecting the mountains, as well as western and northern regions. Sleet remains possible on the highest Troodos peaks.

Tuesday will see periodic localised cloud coverage with the possibility of isolated showers or thunderstorms.

Temperatures will gradually decline until Monday, falling below seasonal averages, before a slight increase on Tuesday.
