The German national Football team has already secured qualification for the knockout stage of the UEFA Nations League following victories over Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Netherlands in October. In their remaining matches, the DFB team is focused solely on clinching first place in Group 3 of League A, a feat they accomplished on the penultimate matchday.
On Saturday, November 16, coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team faced Bosnia-Herzegovina at home once again. Germany had previously triumphed over the Balkan side with a score of 2:1 in October. Before the rematch against the DFB team, Bosnia-Herzegovina found themselves at the bottom of the table with only one point. Germany also secured a clear second victory this time, winning 7:0. The match kicked off at 20:45 and was broadcast live on free television on RTL and streamed on RTL+.
Three days later, Germany will face Hungary for the third time this year. The DFB team won both previous encounters, securing a 2:0 victory during the group stage at the home European Championship in June, and a resounding 5:0 win in the first leg of the UEFA Nations League on September 7. The return match in Budapest is set to begin on Tuesday, November 19, at 20:45, live on ZDF and available in the ZDF media library.

Assault on the Central Bank, by Lluis Canut
The injury list during the previous international matches in October was lengthy, with Marc-André ter Stegen (FC Barcelona), Kai Havertz (Arsenal), Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich), Niclas Füllkrug (West Ham United), and Robin Koch (Eintracht Frankfurt) all sidelined. Consequently, Julian Nagelsmann had to adjust his plans, giving debut opportunities to Jamie Leweling (VfB Stuttgart), Jonathan Burkardt (Mainz 05), and Tim Kleindienst (Borussia Mönchengladbach). Leweling even scored the winning goal in their 1:0 victory against the Netherlands. However, due to injury, the midfield star will not be available in November. On Thursday, November 7, Nagelsmann announced the final squad for the two remaining international matches in the UEFA Nations League. The results are as follows:

My Challenge to Jose Mourinho: Alter My Transfer Plans and I Won
Following the goal-fest against Bosnia-Herzegovina and the group victory in the Nations League, Julian Nagelsmann was asked to draw a parallel to one of the greatest moments in German football history. Did the 7:0 victory evoke memories of the legendary 7:1 semi-final win against Brazil at the 2014 World Cup?
The national coach was reluctant to entirely embrace the comparison but did not dismiss it completely. “The significance of the match was certainly much greater back then, but we had our moments of joy today as well,” said Nagelsmann. Coincidentally, former World Cup coach Joachim Löw was present at the stadium in Freiburg. “He surely felt quite entertained,” Nagelsmann remarked about his predecessor’s experience as a spectator. The label of world-class is once again warranted, even if the national coach publicly remains modest in his expressions. “We’re closer than we have been before,” Nagelsmann stated. Yet he believes that the ultimate goal is still a long way off, despite recent football festivities.

The German national team thrilled its fans in the last home game of the year with a festival of football, gifting Julian Nagelsmann the highest win as head coach to date. Goals from Jamal Musiala (2nd minute), Tim Kleindienst (23rd and 79th), Kai Havertz (37th), Florian Wirtz (50th and 57th), and Leroy Sané (67th) secured a 7:0 (3:0) victory in the Nations League clash against Bosnia-Herzegovina.
A crowd of 28,143 witnessed the highest victory during Nagelsmann’s tenure at the sold-out Europa-Park Stadium in Freiburg on an exhilarating evening of football. Germany’s previous highest score was achieved three years ago under Hansi Flick, with a 9:0 win against Liechtenstein.
Julian Nagelsmann can rely on Florian Wirtz for the last home international match of the year. The forward has overcome his illness sufficiently to play against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Saturday (20:45/RTL). “As of now, he will be able to play. Whether he can manage 90 minutes, we’re not sure,” Nagelsmann stated prior to the final training session at the Europa-Park Stadium.
Wirtz had previously suffered from a stomach upset, making his return to team training on Thursday. A victory over Bosnia would ensure the DFB team clinches group victory in the Nations League.
According to Nagelsmann, all 21 players available in his squad are ready for action. Only Nico Schlotterbeck is suspended due to a yellow card. As announced, the national coach will rest some players, possibly only fielding them temporarily. Names were not disclosed by Nagelsmann. However, he did confirm that Oliver Baumann will start in goal against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Saturday, with Alexander Nübel expected to make his second appearance in Hungary on Tuesday (20:45/ZDF).
Simultaneously, Nagelsmann announced that the rotation of goalkeepers will come to an end in March during the quarter-finals of the Nations League. He intends to settle on a replacement for the injured first-choice goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen. The FC Barcelona goalkeeper is expected to return to the national team no earlier than next summer after a knee injury.
A day before the Nations League match against Bosnia-Herzegovina, head coach Julian Nagelsmann conducted final training with all 22 players of his squad. Florian Wirtz, who was previously sidelined by illness, participated, as did the injured first-choice keeper Marc-André ter Stegen, who visited the DFB team in Frankfurt. Oliver Baumann will take his place in goal against Bosnia-Herzegovina.
After the training session, the national team will travel by bus to the venue in Freiburg, where the final home match of the European Championship year will take place at the packed Europa-Park Stadium, hosting nearly 28,000 spectators.
In the Nations League, the DFB team is contesting for group victory, with Germany already confirmed as a participant in the quarter-finals in March. The clear goal is qualification for the final tournament in the summer of 2025, which could potentially be hosted in Germany.
At the beginning of the week, Nagelsmann indicated a willingness to make compromises in the lineup, considering the comfortable sporting situation, allowing him to rest some frequently utilized players.
Goalkeeper Oliver Baumann is expected to make his second international appearance for Germany on Saturday in the Nations League against Bosnia-Herzegovina (20:45/RTL). The 34-year-old from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim was chosen by head coach Julian Nagelsmann to start over Stuttgart’s Alexander Nübel (28) for the match in Freiburg against Bosnia-Herzegovina. This Friday, Baumann will participate in the final press conference alongside Nagelsmann in Freiburg Stadium.
It is anticipated that Nübel will then play in the final group match on Tuesday (20:45/ZDF) in Budapest against Hungary. Nagelsmann decided on this division of responsibilities in October – both will have one game each. Nübel made his international debut in Zenica against Bosnia-Herzegovina, while Baumann did so in Munich against the Netherlands. Germany has already secured qualification for the Nations League quarter-finals, and a win in Freiburg will confirm the group victory.
First-choice goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen (32) of FC Barcelona will be sidelined for several months due to a serious knee injury. The third goalkeeper in the current squad is Manchester City’s Stefan Ortega Moreno (32), who has not previously been nominated for the DFB team.
Head coach Julian Nagelsmann will be without Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller for the two final group matches of the Nations League. The 23-year-old, who has three caps for the national team, left the training camp of the national team in Frankfurt/Main due to muscular problems. Whether a player will be called up as Stiller’s replacement remains uncertain.
Stiller has already skipped previous training sessions ahead of the matches against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Saturday (20:45/RTL) in Freiburg and Tuesday (20:45/ZDF) in Budapest against Hungary. Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz (21) has also been absent due to illness.
Nagelsmann has emphasized the importance of closely monitoring the players’ fitness levels. All other 18 field players and three goalkeepers attended a private training session on Wednesday in Frankfurt, according to the DFB. Following nominations, Stiller’s VfB teammate Deniz Undav had to withdraw due to injury. Germany has already secured qualification for the UEFA quarter-finals in March 2025.
