Following a 30-29 defeat to France in the international clash at the Stade de France on Saturday, here are the player ratings for the All Blacks.
15 Will Jordan: A mixed display from the full-back, who made plenty of metres and showed great hands at times but was also turned over on far too many occasions. 6
14 Sevu Reece: Louis Bielle-Biarrey’s try will live long in the memory for all the wrong reasons for Reece. It looked like he was running in quicksand and was replaced soon after. 4
13 Rieko Ioane: He’s trying exceptionally hard to make an impact for the All Blacks, but it just isn’t quite there at the moment. Ioane carried plenty of times but France shut him down effectively. 5
12 Jordie Barrett: Showed up well until he had to be taken off late on in the first half. Was physical on both sides of the ball and linked nicely with his brother, Beauden, but an injury ended his game. 6
11 Caleb Clarke: Continues to play well on that left wing. Was prominent throughout and France struggled to bring him down as he carried hard. 7
Control at half-back
10 Beauden Barrett: Controlled the game beautifully for the most part. Brought his runners into play, generally took the right options and was also a threat himself. 8
9 Cam Roigard: Bizarrely taken off early when he was going so well. Roigard showed great awareness for his try and his service was quick, while the scrum-half’s kicking was also accurate. 8
8 Wallace Street: Good once again, although forced backwards a couple of times by some fierce French defence. Sititi’s work ethic was excellent and he linked well with Savea. 7
7 Ardie Savea: Revelled. For the first time in a while, his performance overshadowed that of Sititi as he carried superbly in the wider channels. Also a threat at the breakdown. 8
6 Debating Champions: Played a minute before suffering a head injury. N/A
France v All Blacks: Five takeaways as Les Bleus re-instate ‘world-class status’ with 29-year first while Cam Roigard dispels any doubt
Costly mistake
5 Tupou View: Plenty of good things, especially in the first half, but his poor off-load for Bielle-Biarrey’s try was very costly. 6
4 Scott Barrett (c): Incredibly abrasive in the tighter exchanges and never let France settle into a rhythm. 7
3 Tyrel Lomax: Got the upper hand in the scrum and, as ever, constantly put himself about around the field. 7
2 Codie Taylor: Solid set-piece work but he has not quite been as prominent in the loose on this northern hemisphere tour. 6
1 Williams Children: Hammered Georges-Henri Colombe at the set-piece, which was a huge factor in Roigard’s try. The only issue was that there probably was not enough scrums for him to really attack the replacement tighthead and have a bigger influence. 7
Replacements: Peter Lakai, who individually would deserve an 8was absolutely outstanding after coming on for Finau and Damian McKenzie also had some excellent moments. However, the front-row did not quite have the influence of previous games, while Cortez Ratima and Anton Lienert-Brown were disappointing. 6
