Should We Have Goed to Greece is it a good movie? What do spectators think of the comedy with Gérard Jugnot? – Cinema News

Gérard Jugnot is currently starring in Nicolas Benamou's comedy “We should have gone to Greece”. What do viewers think of the feature film?

In We should have gone to Greece, the new comedy by Nicolas Benamou (Babysitting, Mystère à Saint-Tropez…), Gérard Jugnot plays Christian Rousselot, a gynecologist who comes to spend his family vacation in Corsica.

Accustomed to Greece, the family is lent a villa on the Isle of Beauty by the wealthy husband of a patient from Rousselot. But as soon as they arrive, neighbors come to disrupt the start of their vacation. Family and island score-settling, and misunderstandings ahead…

Also worn by Virginie Hocq, Claudia Bacos, Orféo Campanella, Charlotte Gabris, Michel Ferracci, Elie Semoun and Vincent Desagnat, this “Corsican” comedy was written by Corsicans (Michel Ferracci and Pierre-Marie Mosconi) in order to bring authenticity and legitimacy. The majority of the technical team was also Corsican.

Nicolas Benamou explains in the press kit: “This nourished the subtleties of the characters and the plot and kept the gauge of what we were telling in the right place. We could not go too far while still going quite far… So it's not a film that was made behind the Corsicans' backs: we made it with them, together.

What do viewers think of this comedy?

With 147 ratings and 116 reviews at the time of writing, We should have gone to Greece has an average viewer rating of 3.6 stars out of 5. 55% of comments emphasize that the film is funny and refreshing and that the couple formed by Gérard Jugnot and Virginie Hocq are hilarious.

A nice comedy…

Thus François Bureloup writes: “The film is very successful, it's funny, touching too and there's even action. In short, everything to please. In these difficult times, laughing heartily (which was the case with a full house) of characters and situations, it feels really good.

No downtime, actors all working hard, and a director who knows his way around comedy (Babysitting). Honestly, it's out of traditional comedies where you smile, it's guaranteed to be a real laugh!”

Suzanne Monet rates the film 5 stars and specifies: “Seen in preview with family, and we LOVED it! The atmosphere in the room was incredible: laughter and applause throughout the screening, proof that the film touches its audience. The team is not only talented, but also very friendly and endearing.

A family comedy not to be missed, full of good humor. Favorite for Virginie Hocq, who is hilarious alongside Gérard Jugnot. A must see!”

For FabLaurent2700, “one might have expected a light comedy, but this film also offers a nice dose of emotion. The comedic situations are hilarious, but there are also moments of sincerity that really touch you. A funny and human film, not to be missed.

Daniel Hesse compares the film to Tuche: “It's a nice film. Not revolutionary either. We are clearly not at the level of the Visitors or the Ch'tis but clearly in the assumed and claimed lineage of the Tuche. We have here a family which is immediately sympathetic to us and that we want to see again for at least one trilogy.”

But too caricature

On the negative side, 10% of critics regret the lack of originality, the clichés and the absence of authentic Corsican landscapes. Herve K regrets that “the gags and caricatures about the Corsicans are seen again and again… it no longer makes you laugh, barely smiles. It’s a shame that Jugnot compromised himself in such a film, unless it was for dietary reasons!”

For the Internet user Petru2s, who saw the film in , the film is “quite funny, it feels more like a play, there aren't that many shots. The dialogues aren't crazy. The sister has a Corsican accent that is too forced, I think. He takes the shots backwards. A film to watch with the family to spend a rainy Wednesday afternoon or a Monday evening film.

Alain André finally writes: “I laughed a little, but the scenario is heavy and predictable, with all the clichés about the Corsicans. We don't see a single original idea on this beautiful island. Gérard Jugnot and his wife are doing well, but the rest of the cast is a mess. Film to forget very quickly, unfortunately.

In conclusion, We should have gone to Greece pleases for its humor and its main actors but does not avoid clichés about Corsica and lacks landscapes showing the Isle of Beauty.

And you, what did you think of it? Don’t hesitate to rate the film!
