With a history dating back to the 17th century, Villa Tulumba has maintained its colonial essence through its cobblestone streets, adobe buildings and tile roofs.
The active participation of the community in rural and cultural practices was key to attracting the attention of the UNWTO, which valued how the town has promoted local development without compromising its historical values.
The President of the Córdoba Tourism Agency, Darío Capitani, together with the mayor of Tulumba, Roberto Raúl Casas, received the recognition within the framework of the 122nd Meeting of the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), a specialized agency of the United Nations , held at the Cartagena de Indias Convention Center, Colombia.
“This international recognition of Villa Tulumba is a source of pride for Córdoba and Argentina. It inspires us to continue promoting sustainable tourism, valuing our traditions and unique landscapes, and generating a positive impact on our communities. Tulumba demonstrates that tourism can be a powerful tool to strengthen cultural identity and open new opportunities for local development,” said Darío Capitani.
In this regard, the mayor of Villa Tulumba, Roberto Casas, added: “This award represents an opportunity to strengthen tourism in Villa Tulumba and throughout the region, attracting new visitors interested in authentic and sustainable experiences. The distinction positions Tulumba as a model of rural tourism in Argentina and the world, reaffirming its heritage and cultural value. The UNWTO Best Tourism Villages award recognizes towns that promote respectful tourism practices in economic, social and environmental terms. Award-winning towns are evaluated in nine areas, including the management of natural and cultural resources, the ability to sustain social well-being and the promotion of local economic activities.
Furthermore, by being recognized in this category, Villa Tulumba joins the UNWTO global network, a community that allows these towns to exchange experiences, share good practices and collaborate on joint projects.
