Paraguay’s association is taking a crazy measure for the clash with Argentina: visiting fans are not allowed to wear a jersey of Lionel Messi or one of their other idols in the stadium.

On the night of Thursday to Friday (12:30 a.m.) German time, Paraguay and Argentina will meet in the World Cup qualification in Asunción. Fan textiles are prohibited for away fans at this game.

“Fans are not allowed into the stadium with Argentina, Barça or Inter Miami jerseys with Messi’s name on them, nor with clothing associated with the visiting players,” explains Fernando Villasboa, director of the Paraguayan Football Association, on Radio La Red.

Villasboa reiterates: “Anyone entering outside the visitors’ park is not allowed to wear the jersey of the Argentine national team, Argentine clubs or clubs with the names of players from other countries.”

The Paraguayan leader is proclaiming a zero-tolerance policy regarding this measure. This initiative is due to increased security measures. The same measure had already been taken at the last home game against Brazil and it was explicitly stated that no one was allowed to wear a jersey from Vinicius Junior, who was recently ridiculed, and Co.

Argentina leads the table with 22 points after ten games, hosts Paraguay are in 6th place with 13 points. The first six teams will qualify for the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA.
