Appointed Wednesday at the head of a new team to dismantle the American bureaucracy, the boss of Tesla, SpaceX and the social network X launched recruitment.
Fans of the 35-hour week, refrain. Recently appointed by Donald Trump to head the Department of“governmental efficiency” (Doge), billionaire Elon Musk is looking for highly motivated people willing to work hard “more than 80 hours per week” to join his teams.
Shortly after the announcement of its creation, the first post from the Doge (Department of Government Efficiency) on the social network X set the tone: “We're working overtime to make sure your tax dollars are spent wisely!”. This Thursday, the Doge launched his recruitment campaign with another publication on “the thousands of Americans who have expressed the wish to [les] help”.
Elon Musk and his co-director, Republican businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, say they don't need “part-time idea generators”but rather “revolutionaries with very high IQs, in favor of small government, and willing to work 80+ hours a week on inglorious cost cuts”. CVs must be sent by private message to the Doge's official account – which, by the way, is not possible without subscribing to a paid subscription on the X… platform owned by Elon Musk. The latter and Vivek Ramaswamy will personally examine “the top 1% of candidates”.

As a reminder, the department of“governmental efficiency” aims to “dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excessive regulations, cut unnecessary spending, and restructure federal agencies,” according to the president-elect. He even compared it to “Manhattan Project of our time”named for the American research and development program during World War II to create the atomic bomb. “I look forward to Elon and Vivek making changes in the federal bureaucracy, with a vision for efficiency and, at the same time, improving the lives of all Americans”praised Donald Trump. The two men have until July 4, 2026 for the leading world power to acquire a “smaller government” who would be “a perfect gift to America for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence” of July 4, 1776.
When the future president of the United States published the press release, dogecoin, a virtual asset, soared by 22%. And for good reason: the Department of Government Efficiency is the perfect acronym for this cryptocurrency which Elon Musk has long promoted, to the point of being suspected of manipulating the price. At the end of August 2024, the American courts finally rejected this argument.
